Book Review – The N Days

The N Days by John Murray McKay

This book, the first of a series, is an adventure like no other. New ideas, new concepts and a new type of hero are all ingredients to making this book something not to be missed – and this is just the beginning!
The nightmares you had when you were a child come to life before Samantha’s eyes as the veil between worlds is torn. She loses everything, family, home, and the life she knew. Endowed with a strange but powerful ability, she sets of across America in search of fellow survivors. This sci-fi, futuristic tale is of one woman’s journey and daily fight for survival to join a resistance against powerful and incredibly evil forces that are ripping her world apart. Another exciting addition to this book is the interactive coordinates. Throughout the book coordinates are available that when copied to Google maps, allow one to follow Samantha’s adventures.
John writes in a wonderfully descriptive manner with the setting taking on a life of it’s own as the characters are brilliantly brought to life. I love descriptive writing and this just fed my imagination with colors and textures. I couldn’t stop reading and I’m looking forward with anticipation to the next book. John also manages to successfully write a female character. I have often found that female characters created by male authors often have a hardness and calculated side to their characters, I found Samantha to be a truly relateable and ‘real’ character.
I would suggest if for more mature audiences, but it is an adventure people from almost any genre would appreciate and enjoy. Be sure to pick up a copy on Amazon.
