Book Review – A Traveller on Horseback

A Traveller on Horseback by Christina Dodwell

A stunning retelling of an adventure of a lifetime. Christina Dodwell has a unique way of exploring the world – she goes to new countries, procures a horse and then has adventures and explorations on horseback. This specific book is of her adventures with her new equine friend in Eastern Turkey and Iran.

I came across this book by accident, by asking a friend to buy me any horse-related books at a book sale. She came back with this one and after the first few pages, I was hooked and swept up into the adventure. Being a horse-person myself, I could connect with her experiences, interactions and the emotions of the horse she managed to convey.

Skillfully written with great detail and attention to interesting facts. In reading this book I learned so much about the amazing and beautiful culture and places in Turkey. I could ‘experience’ the kindness and hospitality of the locals and also the strange and sometimes confusing actions of some officials. Image

By the end of the book I was so ‘caught up’ that I was worrying about what would happen to the horse when she left – thankfully, right when all hope of him finding a good home seemed out of reach, a kind farmer came along – such a relief. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading about the world, things to do, places to go and also enjoying a good story all in one.

Four stars for an engaging, well-written book. ****
