My sister suggested I should do regular movie reviews, as she is studying screen-writing and has to often do such things. I thought it would be an interesting thing to do, so here I go. 🙂
The Hunger Games
Having first read the book and then watched the movie, I was rather pleased with the adaption. It lacked a few moments I really hoped would be included, large sections went missing and the plot was a bit out of order a few times, but all together, it was a very satisfactory outcome. I had already fallen in love with Peeta in the book, so it was just confirmed when one of my favourite actors, Josh Hutcherson, popped up as Peeta Mellark. Josh does a fantastic job portraying Peeta, making the character even more likeable and special. Katniss is a very strong character, stubborn and annoying at times, which makes her believable, but also the heroin as she acts with bravery and selflessness. Jennifer Lawrence was well chosen and shines in her role, becoming Katniss Everdeen and persuading us that she has completely inhabited her character’s skin and brought her alive. The setting and locations used were fantastic, the effects and attention to detail satisfying and the rest of the cast also fantastic choices. The only one I cannot quite settle comfortably with is Gale, for some or other reason it feels like there is more Liam Hemsworth than Gale on the screen. Otherwise, I give it four out of five stars and I cannot wait for the next installment. Bring on Catching Fire!
