African Coral Trees

I am sure that most people are familiar with coral trees, I have spotted them all over in several different countries. Especially someone growing up in Africa must have seen one sometime in their childhood, but will probably remember it by another name – Lucky Bean Tree. The magic of finding those scarlet beans with a black saddle and holding them tightly in your fist to show your mother.

Interesting fact – they have been regarded as ‘royal trees’, having been planted on the graves of Zulu chiefs. I can understand this as there is something regal about these trees – it could be their heaven-reaching stance or vivid vermilion flowers resembling flames, but there is no denying that these trees are very special.
