My Little Arabian – The Beginning

Dazzle, the most adorable horse ever to walk the earth. With a stunning flash, four white socks, and a nature both cheeky and loyal. His life did not have an easy beginning, being born to a blind mother whom he lost very soon to old age. It was a gamble for her to have another foal, but I am so grateful she was able to. Growing up by himself, Dazzle had to learn the hard way about what was scary and what was safe. Named after his mother, Sparkle – no name could be more fitting than ‘Dazzle’.

I first met him when I was 9 years old, desperately horse-mad and finally allowed to have my very own horse. We had looked around for weeks, and at last found out about some horses for sale at a local game-reserve that were not suitable for trail riding. We were taken to a far-off paddock where we met 4 possible choices. Dazzle was among them, and so was my sister’s horse – T’amour. Dazzle was too ‘hot’ for trail rides, his nature all fireworks, fairies  and bright sparkling colours. Meeting him was one of those magical, beyond reality milestones that only seldom dot the timeline of your life. It was love at first sight – he was perfect – a true fairy horse, and I was not going to let him go. He seemed to come to the same conclusion. Taking a mouthful of my hair in his mouth, he stood gazing at me with a look that spoke louder than words – “Let’s be friends for ever.” I couldn’t agree more…
